Default Newbie Car Insurance Help

Hi everyone

I have just joined this forum as I have been thinking of buying an S in the not so distant future but already I have hit a problem. My car insurance quotes are quite frankly horrific.

I am 30 this year with 8/9years NCB living in a SE postcode and an SP30 back in 2006. I am encountering quotes at the 1200 mark with excess of 500. This cant be normal surely? I thought I had passed receiving quotes like this since I left 18 quite a long time ago.

Apologies if this is in the wrong part of the forum but if someone could give their views on this it would be much appreciated. I have used all the recommended insurers from this website but still no joy.

Depends on a LOT of variables. It's a bit pointless to make comparisons -- especially without any details (yet people still do). FWIW it looks like my 6 month premium is about $1,200 but that includes:

100/300/100
100 PIP & Medical
0 Deductible Comprehensive
50 Deductible Collision
50/1,500 Rental Reimbursement

...and I'm 35 with a clean record and I live in 77002.

How many quotes have you requested and from which companies?

Welcome

Right section of the forum but it's tough to really gauge insurance premums based on too many variables to really determine what your rate should be...

credit, driving history, vehicle use, # of vehicles, marital status, amount of coverage garaging zip code, etc.... just some of the variables that go into your rate... you could be my neighbor with the exact same car and we could have completely different rates.. check with progressive.com or insweb or insurance.com they do comparison rating so you might be able to start there.. also, if you have a home, maybe see if the company you insure your home with can bundle the s2000 into a package.

Good luck.. happy hunting (for both your insurance as well as s2000 )

Welcome. Just a thought but I save a couple thousand dollars a year because I have a 2nd car as my DD. I spent about 4k on it 3 years ago so I'm already profitable. The 2nd car also hasn't lost value in the used car market, seats 4, has been extremely useful for its immense cargo hauling capacity, has lower fuel and maintenance costs, and keeps my s2k out of the weather.

I went with a Subaru Outback, but you could pick up any cheap ride to reduce your premium by tons. There are no restrictions on the # of miles I drive in either vehicle so I pick a car every morning based on my mood and the weather.

Wow some of you guys really are getting screwed even over age 25. I'm 29 and pay about $650 every 6 months. BUT THAT'S FOR 3 VEHICLES INCLUDING THE S2000 and only my beater car is not under full coverage! It helps that I have a spotless record I guess but putting a 1992, 4 door sedan on the policy as you "daily driver" helps drop the premium on your S2000.

I just saved a bunch of money by switching to Geico....lol

I have 2 cars in my policy. a 2001 s2k full coverage 150,300, and 500 deductible on comprehensive. my 1998 GSR has everything but collision and both of them are 1300 per 6 months. and there is also 6000 in custom coverage for the vehicles..
30606 is the zip and I am 22 with a history.

I pay $40.82/month on my MY02 S2K. Comprehensive and Collision deductibles are at $500, the higher you can push that deductible the less you are going to pay. Just always keep that amount in the bank account.

Yea I always carry $1,000 deductibles. If something is going to cost less than that to fix and it was your fault just get it fixed yourself...avoid paying the deductible and the chance of your insurance rates going up. If you are a safe driver and generally do not get into trouble it's stupid to spend 40% more each month on your insurance bill by carrying $250 deductibles instead of $1,000. If you go 1 year without an accident you just paid your first deductible in insurance savings.

Geography has a LOT to do with rates as well.

Also, my 02 is more expensive to insure than my 08....
