Default Newbie question....looking for 400+ 'reliable' hp

hi there-
Looking for a FUN track car. A friend of mine told me an S2000 would be a fun car due to its lightweight and handling....

However, I have a craving for power.....
Is there a reliable way to squeeze at least 400 hp (350 rwhp) out of the car without getting too crazy and without completely jeopardizing the drivability and longevity of the car?

I have seen some supercharger kits by Vortech and Comptech but I think they will still leave me about 50hp short of my goal...

Like to hear your experiences with what works and what doesn't. I can't imagine that I am the first to brough this up.

Thanks in advance.

How much money do you have to spend on top of the 32k to get the car?

vortech or comptech with an intercooler of some kind, with a 11 psi pulley, stand alone EMS, upgrade the injectors, balance the crank, proper tuning, stripping the car down to 2200 lbs, 5-6 pt roll cage, add some suspension, clutch, reinforce the rear end, 4.44 gears and you should have what you are looking for in a track S2000. I am about 60% there. The only problem is this is my daily driver. You should only put 5K a year on the car at most, so long term engine reliability wouldn't be an issue for the first 3 years, unless this is a used high mileage S. If it is, then get a compression check to make sure that there is full compression in each cylinder. Then go at it. The handling this car has to offer is top notch!

YES....Buy a Z06 or 03 Cobra.

Think about what you are asking.

Can I increase a car designed for 240 hp by 160 MORE hp and have the car be as safe and reliable as the stock version?

Pick up the current issue of Car and Driver. Comptech used over $28,000 in performance parts to get that kind of power(and handling) out of an S2000.

And then C&D stated in the same article that a stock Z06 could spank it.

If you love the S2000 and have lots of money, go for it.
If you truly want a fast and great handling car and money is a concern, get a z06 and work from there. Dollar for dollar, the z06 is always gonna be a faster car, even in the twisties!

Z06 kicks but. I can't wait to see the "new" Corvettes. I saw a spy photo and they aren't going to change much about the car. I think that it will have sharper lines and head lights that are mounted inside the car though.

May I suggest http://www.chevrolet.com/corvette/model_z06.htm ? There's a nice fun way to get 400+ reliable HP.

Please think about what you're asking. A reliable 400 HP 2 liter motor is pretty much a fantasy unless your definition of reliable includes replacing expensive parts often.
