Default Newbie questions.....after my first test drive!

Hi all!!

First, I have to say that this is one hell of a site! I've been hanging out here for a couple weeks reading everything I can and I just can't believe how thorough this site is.

Anyway, I just test drove a 2000 S2000 on Thursday and I have a few questions for those of you in the know on these things.

1. Is there a remote trunk release? I used to have a del Sol and it didn't have one so I look for that now. (not a deal breaker, just wondering)

2. While driving around town at around 3000 RPM, I noticed that the car made a rather loud moaning type noise whenever I lifted off the throttle to keep my speed in check. Is this normal for the S2000 engine at that speed?

3. Just out of curiousity (and please don't try this on my account if you don't already know) if you accidently hit the "Engine Start" button while the car is running, does it do the same kind of thing that turning the ignition key on a standard car does? i.e. grind the starter?

4. Those of you that do drive your S2000 daily and live in areas where there is snow, as I will and do, does the car handle well? My brother has a Miata (I know, big difference) and he says that the Miata does very well in snow as long as you use snow tires.

That's all I can think of right now; I'm sure I'll think of more later. Pardon the long post, and thanks in advance for any responses.

Mike

3) Actually I "believe" (I have not tested) the start button only engages the starter when the clutch is press in.

Thanks a lot for the quick response Boiler!

I'm trying to plan for my next car so I need to make sure I do this right.

The buzzing sound was indeed what I heard. It's good to know that there's a fix for that. It's livable if it's normal, but why live with it if it's not?

I have one more question for you or anyone else that has done this. What do people do with the stereo controls next to the steering wheel when they replace the factory stereo? Do they remove them? Do they leave them alone as decorations? Is there anyone that has modified them to control any of the functions in an aftermarket stereo?

I'm not a big stereo kind of guy, but I have an in-dash MP3 player right now and I don't think I could live without that again.

Thanks again!

Argetni, YES. This is the correct answer. The starter will not engage unless the clutch is depressed. Don't ask, curiosity got the best of me one day

I use my car daily, 2 years and 200 miles short of 40,000 miles now. I use the stock wheels with Blizzak LM-22 tires and about 100 pounds of sand in the trunk (when it snows), these tires handle great during cold driving conditions and snow/wet/slick conditions.

There is also a 'mechanical' trunk release, button, in the center glove box.

ReedZ, that is the exact stereo that I have in my Turbo Beetle! I love that radio and would love to be able to transfer some of the functionality to the remote controls.

Thanks!

What model S2000 did you drive? A 2002 should (in theory) have all the TSBs for the 3-4k decelleration sound. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though If you did indeed drive a 2002, you may have to consider what you heard "normal"

I just consider it character on my car. It isn't particularly loud, and I'd prefer not to have my transmission disassembled to alter it (not even sure if it's pre/post TSB as I have an early 2001 model). Someone disassembling then reassembling my tranny means one more possibility of a problem creeping in IMO
