Default Next "generation" S2000

Hi all,

since the beginning of this forum every year we had these threads about how the next years S2000 would look like and if they would change the engine etc.

Many people always asked for more power and nowadays I think it has become more than obvious that the S2000 laks a bit of power compared to todays "new toys" like the Evo, 350Z, Impreza etc.

At least Honda should bring out a Type-R version for people who want the real sports car.

Maybe they don't wanna do this because noonewould buy their actual NSX anymore but comeon..only serious Honda-fans still buy the actual NSX.

Recent news say that next gen S2000 will feature an ESP system (electronic stability program) which isn soo bad cause we wil be able to shut its functio off but isnated of wishfull thinking why dont we try to agree to some changes they shoudl make for the next gen S2000 and try to send a letter to Honda.

This is the largest S2K community in the world so Honda should at least read what we want.

I think a 2.5 liter 5 pot engine with 280-300 HP with a 9000 redline wouldn't be asked too much as the intitial SSM featured already a 5 cylinder block.

what do you guys think?

Regards,

Yves

I think jumping on the Elise bandwagon is a good idea. I'm more for less weight than I am for more power. If they bumped displacement up even more, extracting some more torque and power, 250hp+ and 180lb/ft+ would be nice in a 2500lbs car.

Mee too but Honda does have to lookout for "normal" customers too.

So eithe rthey keep it like it is in terms of weight and pu tmore power or thy bring out a stripped car...but the thing is...you cannot strip much of the S2000 unless you change the whole structure.

I can tell cause I stripped my racecar.

This is what I want:

As we all know that was one of concepts - a 5 cylinder S2000. But beyond that little is known about it. Frankly, I think Honda is a lot more focused on F1 and its reputation than it is in updating its sports cars. One can only hope they do not intend to milk this car like they have the NSX and drag it out for years without any significant improvements.

This is from the Road & Track Jan 05 issue.

"The long-awaited Acura NXS replacement remains just that as Honda is re-thinking its supercar project. Unlke the current two seat exoitc, the next range-topper will likely have a steel body, 2+2 seating and hybrid power. Don't expect to see this car till 2007 or 08. In the meantime, the lackluster selling S2000 may face cancellation in 2006-2007, with no successor in the pipe line"

You can strip at least 600 lbs. off the S2000 in its current state and to me that is "much".

Well true but then you don't have a streat ca ranymore and you are nowhere close to the weight of an Elise if you wanna go that way.

Is it possible that Toyota's display of the Lexus LF-A will shame Honda into redoing a next generation NSX?

As for the S2000... who knows what will happen. I wouldn't mind if Honda kept it as-is and continued to build it for a decade like they did with the NSX. I don't care if other cars like the Evo and STi are faster. The S2000 is not a drag racer.
