Default Nitrous questions

I've been thinking about doing the CAI and exhaust combo and then it occured to me that for the same $$ I could just get a nitrous kit and get a lot more bang for the buck... problem is, I know nothing about this stuff:

1. I definately don't wanna do this if I have to mess around with a bottle... so I was wondering whether nitrous kits can be hooked up to the accellerator so that, say, the nitrous only come on when your foot is to the floor.

2. Wet or dry? What's the difference?

3. I understand that I need to upgrade my fuel pump, but is there any other hidden costs with nitrous?

4. How long do the bottles last and, roughly, how much are we talking about to fill it up/replace it?

5. Am I crazy just thinking about this?

I'm a not a street racer and have no iterest in that stuff. I just want a little more zip, ya know?

Regards,

Dean

- how much HP are you wanting to gain from a nitrous kit is the first question...

dut,

Thanks for the info.

I was thinking that nitrous would add at least 50hp, but, to be honest, I really don't know.

Is there a way of calculating the number of uses you'd get dependent on the per use application? Ya know, like 10lb bottle'd give 50 70 shot runs or something?

Also, I'm guessing the bottle'd go in the trunk, which makes me wonder whether a rear impact'd make the car explode or something?

...I have a felling that it'll take more than flowers 'n candy to talk the wife into this one!

Thanks again,

Dean

- the bottle size doesn't determine how much HP you will gain, the JETs do.
- if you want a 50 shot, then it will be very easy for you..

You've made me wonder the same things. I'm not a racer really- street or track, but I think some more "zip" would be cool. It seems like nitrous is somewhat looked down upon, based on the little bit I've read from other posts in the past. Is that true? Just curious, as I probably would never get the stuff, but this post made me a little interested. I'm thinking it's also illegal in most (or all) states, too, right?

Dont do it man trust me it's not worth it i installed the juice got arrested the same night, my car is now messed up from the nitrous, are engines cant hold it maybe a 50 but a 50 shot is a waste of money i put a 125 for bout 5-6 runs and then i took it out and my enjine is giving me so many problems it not even funny.

S2KJimmy, thanks for the info... That sounds bad. I don't think I'll go this route.

When I casually brought the subject up with my wife last night she said, "what? you've gotta be f***ing kidding me! 30k on your dream machine and you wanna f*** it up with nitrous? No. I'm saying NO!"... then she starts to wail a little... *tut* my wife just doesn't geddit! Oh well, plenty of other ways to zing it up, I guess.

whoa whoa whoa... ok jimmy, sorry your car was messed up bro, but dont blame n20 for bad tuning or too much shot. wheatley, just by reading what you said, nitrous isnt for you. its not for (a lil more zip) its a drag racing thing, wanna win light to light races, thats what its for. a bottle full will last you about 7 runs if your on a 50 shot, if larger shot less runs, and you have to understand the stuff to use it well. its not just turn it on and spray, it needs to be at optimum pressure, which means temp must be optimum also. if you want Xtra zip at all times, go SC. anyways, take it easy. dave

- 50 shot isnt anything, to be "SCARED" about
- my h22 civic squeezing 100 shot got about 12-15 runs one day at the track....
