Default Nitrous Setup Question

After looking voer my choices for some inreased power (FI or All motor) I decided to give nitrous a look and found that it could be another way to reach my goal of 300+hp at the wheels. I dyno'd in at 200hp and 133 lb-ft and believe a 100 shot should be able to get me there, my question is should i strengthen the entire engine to handle it or up the fuel components, ecu and clutch. I know that a 60 shot is what most people run w/o upgrades but i'd like to see more power and just need a bit of help in the right direction. Should i just overprotect the block or only do what i need to? Also is anyone else running a nitrous system w/o turbo or SC? How did the car respond?

I don't know much about NOS setups on the S, but if you do it and put a new clutch in...be careful of the rearend...i've heard they aren't all that hard to break when the S is beefed up.

A FI setup will be easier on the motor then NOS will. With FI the power is always there, linear and no recurring costs. I personally would go with a FI setup for the reason above, plus you don't loose any storage. There are not that many places to put things in the S, a NOS bottle, even a small one will only decrease it.

If you have a CAI, the picknick basket is gone from the engine compartment, would it be possilbe to fit a N2O cannister in its place? Or is that just a stupid idea?

Nitrous is no more damaging than any other FI or big power mod for that matter. It's just a matter of having your timing and air/fuel mixture right. I wouldn't go higher than a 50 shot without upgrading the fuel system (ie fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator). With a 50 shot all you should need to do is get colder spark plugs. (ngk bkr7e) and be set. If you want to be really careful you can also get a window switch which will only allow the nitrous to be sprayed during a certain rpm range and will prevent hitting your limiter while spraying which can destroy the motor.

If the NOS system is setup to give a full shot then it indeed is harder on the engine and drive train. If it steadily increases the spray to make it more linear then it is easy on the engine and drive train. FI like a SC is already setup to give linear power. If you use a SC to get huge power gains, then yes it is damaging as well. Any setup that gives a jolt when it is engaged is not friendly to the car.

If you want to go fast for cheap, you can get a away with a 60 shot without engine mods. Building the motor to "safely" handle a 100 shot will cost a lot more money. Also keep in mind that there is now way to "roll on" power with NOS... it's either all on or all off - not very driver friendly (even at the drag strip).

If you have the $$$ to build the motor and get the NOS kit, just buy a Turbo or Supercharger instead. You would be much happier in the long run. Learn from my mistake.

P.S. - Getting the bottle filled all the time is a PITA too. If the refill shop is closed or runs out of nitrous, you are SOL.

Nitrous is more damaging than the FI setups like the comptech S/C. You can run thousands upon thousands of miles with that but if you use NOS too much or incorrectly...your going to seriously affect any engine adversely. Granted smaller shots may not be as bad, but a 100 shot on stock internals may leave your engine crying for relief

Umm, yes there are. Some companies sell progressive NOS kits that increase the amount in stages, so it is just not on or off. Look for a time-based setup.
