Just the controller can be had for about $400. Different companies have different controllers and the process vary widely.
You know what they say about being cheap? You get what you pay for. Another is cheap now, expensive later. While you can put a NOS system is for little money, if you blow the engine, then it was no longer cheap. Compare the cost of using a big shot of NOS to make the power of a SC unit. Add in the fact that with NOS you always have a bottle that needs to be filled and the possibility of blowing the engine. A SC setup costs more upfront, the risks are lower and there are no recurring costs, plus you always have the power because there is no bottle that can run out.
To me, NOS can be beneficial if the motor and drive train are already strong and can easily handle it and you do not care what happens. If you do care about the components, NOS is not the best solution. It is quick, easy and cheap though.
Yeah i weighed the cost upon building up the engine vs the comptech SC and found that i'd probably be better off going for the SC though a staged Nitrous setup is tepting Thanks everyone for your input!
Nitrous is more damaging than the FI setups like the comptech S/C. You can run thousands upon thousands of miles with that but if you use NOS too much or incorrectly...your going to seriously affect any engine adversely. Granted smaller shots may not be as bad, but a 100 shot on stock internals may leave your engine crying for relief
Horsepower is horsepower no matter how you make it. It will damage the motor the same no matter which method you use. It all takes the same tuning to make 300 hp just the method is different.
Power is not power. If you are talking peak, then yes it's the same. Unless you always have the nitrous running, a FI setup provides more. If you wanted the same performance from nitrous you would have to activate it from a stop and then accelerate. If you only activated at the high-end of the rev range, a FI would be a ways down the road from you as he was making more power from the start.
You don?t think nitrous can be more damaging then FI? For one, FI is always on, so there are no additional jolts to the components because it is linear. With your typical nitrous setup, you get a surge of power when it's activated. If the nitrous system provided a 50% power gain, that would mean when activated the engine and drive train would see 50% more power immediately; that is a big jolt. The FI is like a push and the nitrous is like a shove.
well here if you go nos I think you should go with zex why? because it read of your ecu and I have been using it for two year and no problem. I have 75 shot and used the v-tech controler, act clutch, spoon flywheel and slick tire and ran 12.6 in the 1/4 mile...some don't believe me, but I have the slip to prove it..
It will damage the motor the same no matter which method you use.
Not true. Try hitting the rev limiter with a Nitrous setup vs a Supercharger. The nitrous infected car will leave you with a blown motor. The supercharged car will just scare the shit out of you.
And yes, I had the Zex Kit on my Prelude for over a year - I have experienced first hand as to how it works.
