Automobile: NSX/HSC and S2000 to be snuffed?
Date: June 02, 2004 15:57
Submitted by: Jeff
Source: July 2004 Automobile Magazine
Credibility Rating: 3

According to reports, the July 2004 issue of Automobile Magazine cites Honda "insiders" as saying that the HSC project has been scrapped and the S2000 is nearing the end of its days as well.

Apparently the reason given for the decision was that Honda is shifting their focus and resources to more "core models".

We have not seen the issue yet, but we are more than a little skeptical of this news. It's not clear why a credible "insider" would leak such information unless it's A) true or B) deliberate disinformation, but with all the buildup surrounding the HSC and the public statements and promises made by Takeo Fukui, this could turn into a pretty big PR headache, not to mention a huge setback from a marketing and image perspective.

Soon enough there should be some sort of corroborating or conflicting reports which will shed more light on the subject.

well, the S was an anniversary celebration. the S may make an appearance again, but it has never been a constant model in honda's stable.

the S certainly doesn't generate much, if ANY profit.

Frankly, from a business perspective, it makes sense to can it. A flagship is needed, which is why I think the NSX will have many happy years to come. The 'S' on the other hand is expendable.

Please stop production. The resale value would then stay pretty high just like the rx-7, supra, etc. (not that I'd ever sell it)

You know there are a few of us that have loved the car since before it hit NA dirt and have been conservative enough to wait a bit longer. I would like to see it continue, because I want to purchase a brand new one when I feel comfortable.

But I have to say that I agree... One of the things I love about the car is its relative rarity and its value retention. However, those that I see that love the car so much that they want it discontinued are also those that aren't going to sell it till it's old (like me). hmmmmmmmm

I'd also be highly skeptical of the news. Just my gut...
