Noise from Brakes......Honda's solution...
I had to get some front end work done and NOW I have this clanking noise from the front end....I am at the dealership now and they say that the "Brake Click is Normal" I am looking at the instructions from Honda on how to eliminate the problem...they actually say: "Remove the pads from the caliper brackets, and shim the ends of the backing plates with a cut-up business card until you can reinstall the pads snugly in the brackets. Have your customer drive the vehicle, and if they can't hear any clicking, you've proven your point. Don't worry about removing the pieces of business card; they'll get pulverized and fall out by themselves after a short time."
What do you think about that?

It actually sounds logical. If you temporarily remove the play between the backing plate and the bracket, and the noise stops, the play must have been the cause. When the card disintegrates, the play reappears, so you're back to where you started.
Now, as to whether there should be play in the first place, I'm not so sure. Certainly many or most cars don't have this. Could the wrong pads have been installed or shims left out?

vic Yes, I'll always have a soft spot in my heart (head?) for Alfas. For its time, the 1600 was a lot like the S2000.
Martin I drove the '63 Alfa at Waterford Hills many years ago, earning a SCCA competition license. I see it's still active, unlike a lot of old tracks.
