noob question
Not the issue at hand as indicated above but the rev limiter cuts fuel regardless of gear except for mechanical overrev.

Did you let the car warm up? At least for the '06 S2Ks, the engine has to be at a certain temperature before VTEC engages. I'm not sure if this is the same for MY2000 models.
+1. Best to warm it up by driving, not sitting idling, but drive it easy until it warms up. Even once water temp is reaches operating, oil is still not fully warmed.
Not a good idea to rev into vtec when water is not up to operating temp, let alone oil temp.

2. No biggie, I don't push mine soon after starting up anyway, it's mostly a work car for me. Vtec never engaged on the way to work, but maybe once or twice on the way home, and, since I drive mine year 'round here in Indy, hardly ever with the snow tires on.
