does the 2000 s2000 have a rev limiter for first gear , it wont go over 7000 rpm for me in first gear ? or is there something wrong with the car i just bought ?

 

Did you let the car warm up? At least for the '06 S2Ks, the engine has to be at a certain temperature before VTEC engages. I'm not sure if this is the same for MY2000 models.

 

What does it do over 7k rpm?

Not the issue at hand as indicated above but the rev limiter cuts fuel regardless of gear except for mechanical overrev.

 

That's really bad for the motor revving it so high cold. Give it some time to warm up first.

 

+1. Best to warm it up by driving, not sitting idling, but drive it easy until it warms up. Even once water temp is reaches operating, oil is still not fully warmed.

Not a good idea to rev into vtec when water is not up to operating temp, let alone oil temp.

 

1. I have always known to let the engine warm up before "pressing" it, but I always went by teh temp guage, and didn't realize teh oil temp. lagged behind, until I read it somewhere here awhile back.
2. No biggie, I don't push mine soon after starting up anyway, it's mostly a work car for me. Vtec never engaged on the way to work, but maybe once or twice on the way home, and, since I drive mine year 'round here in Indy, hardly ever with the snow tires on.
