Laugh if you will but playing GT3 will give you a pretty good idea of what happens when you
do crazy stuff during turns, entering/braking, etc.

I taught my girl how to drive a rear wheel drive sportscar using GT3 and when
she got herself in the real thing with nothing but a empty parking lot, she knew exactly what
to expect when I told her to "lift off going into this turn....watch what happens, etc."

I feel worthy now. I didn't at first. After a little Auto-X to develop the skills, the S2000 is asking itself "Am I worthy to be driven by Tom?"

Well, having read the countless posts about people skiding out of control and wrecking their Ss on the board I'd say that a lot of people SHOULD feel like their feeble driving skills are not worthy of their cars.

It is no surprise when in some states (NC for example) the driving test last all but 10 minutes and as long as you can do a 3 point turn you are assured a passing grade.

Better than autox and track days is to go to an emergency driving school. Those are the ones where they put the car on 'training wheels' and by changing the height of the ride can manipulate the amount of grip the tires can give. You really get to learn about driving and your car on those courses. Autox is good for practicing but nothing beats an emergency driving course for learning to handle a car.

Poor SODA! Sounds like you weren't hurt though, which is a good thing.

I've had the back end go out on me a little a couple of times but I've been lucky enough (so far) to have corrected it before I spun out or hit anything. Just that split second of the rear end swinging around makes my heart skip a beat, though.

Mid corner throttle lift is really a recipe for ending up in the ditch. Of course driving 8/10+ on public roads will also get you in the ditch.

One of the problem lies in that a lot of people buying this car are coming from FWD cars, where you can mash/stab at the controls with little worry and you survival instincts (get off the gas, stab the brake) will generally serve you well. Unfortunately those same instincts behind the wheel of a RWD sports car (especially the S2000) will generally earn you an insurance claim (or worse.)

Even if you have complete understanding of car dynamics and full knowledge of why you shouldn

A bit of reading can help if you can't find the time and money to go to the track/autox/driving school.

Read the first chapter of 'Going Faster' by the Skip Barber school.

This chapter deals with the principles of grip, car balance, turning and braking.

Then find the time to go autox/track/drving school
