Default Now This VIN is Weird...

I finally found an S2K I'm serious about making an offer on. However, when I tried to get the VIN from the windshield, I found this:

Yup, it looks like the VIN is incomplete!

The owner was able to provide me the VIN from his insurance papers, and the other body parts have the VIN on them. I'm just wondering why the one on the windshield seems incomplete! Is this normal? There doesn't seem to be any indication that it was scratched off or anything!

Help!

Because Quebec is corrupt and it extends to their used auto sales.

That is extremely strange and I would be suspect. Carproof/Carfax read okay?

The vehicle databases in Quebec don't report collision damage so there always seem to be lower priced cars there with checkered history.

So there are multiple cars out there with this type of VIN on the dashboard? Seems odd to leave the factory that way?

Carproof is fine - two fender benders. VINs in other locations (hood, trunk, doors, bumpers, door jambs) all match. I haven't checked the firewall; I suppose I'll do that next.

Maybe its a fluke. Sometimes mis-struck coins and off printing stamps escape detection and are released. Perhaps the worker/machine failed to print all the VIN stickers and it was not noticed when that one was installed. If it is true the car is intact and the windshield is orginal, I bet that is what happened. Stranger things have happened.
