Default Now THIS is weird!

My girlfriend lives in northern New Jersey, so a few weeks ago I was heading up her way, and decided to top off my gas tank before I crossed the bridge into NJ, since I hate dealing with the full service stations there. Anyway, I had about 3/4 of a tank, and then topped it off until it almost overflowed (I usually DONT do that).

So I get back in, start the car, and drive off. But I notice my gas guage still reads 3/4 of a tank. In fact it hadn't budged. Obviously, this confused the hell out of me, because I knew the tank was filled literally to the top. Weirdly, over the next 5 miles or so, the gas gauge slowly went up notch by notch until it read full. I had topped off the tank in my S2000 before, but that was the first time that had ever happened.

Next week, I drive up there again, and fill up at the same station. This time I'm careful, and only top off the tank 1 click. Get back in the car, start the engine... same thing, fuel gauge didn't budge! Again, after driving 5 miles or so, the gauge slowly climbed back up to full.

The strange thing is this only happens at this particular gas station. The only thing I can think of is that the gas station is on a slight uphill incline, so maybe the float or whatever is in the tank is getting stuck? It's not anything I'm worried about... just a curiosity.

hmm, anybody experience weird things with their gas gauges?

These gas gauges have their own lives, especially when overtopping and the last 1/4 to empty

Sometimes I think it's a computer that makes the readout on the gauge.

Because a can be having 2 bars left (MY05) right now and when driving very gently it can go up to 4 bars a minute later...

I've noticed this also in my other vehicles, but only when the ignition is on (motor off) during fillup. Did you have the ignition on, perhaps? Listening to radio, etc.?

Nope... keys were in my pocket during fill up. *shrugs*

Oh well, it always makes me giddy inside to see my fuel gauge go UP while I'm driving.

Ever look down and suddenly realize the gauge is completely empty, without ANY bars? That'll make ya nervous.

I don't ever top up. When the pump clicks is when I stop. If it clicks when I'm only 3/4 full, that gas station must not want my money. Not my fault

I've noticed something different about the gauge in the 06 versus my old 00. It jumps around alot more, it seems to me. The 00 dropped more consistently. The other day, I had four bars showing when I got in, then a few minutes later it dropped to none and the gas light came on. Then it went back up to one. Very interesting. Same roads...

A few days ago my '01 was almost empty and jumped from having 1 bar of fuel up to 4 with #5 blinking on for just a few seconds , wasn't any kind of particularly steep hill or anything.

Gas gauges are soooo weird.
