NY winter in an S2K????
OK guys I have been to my dealer and I really wanna pick up the 04 S2K. Problem is it would be a daily driver and the winters in NYC are not that friendly in terms of snow and pot holes. First and foremost I need a honest answer if it is possible to drive this thing in the winter with blizzaks on???? Secondly how do you guys find the real low ride in terms of damage on bad streets and high curbs stuff like that?? Well I really love it too bad I dont have enough cash for a winter car too. All opinions are welcome and will be helpful just be honest with me.
There are a bunch of people on the board that drive year around in climates at least as snowy as NY. I've got a cousin that drives his year around in Wisconsin w/o problems. I'd assume that you'll miss a few days work when you S2K can't make it out of the driveway but a monster mudder jacked up 4x4 would make it. I don't know about pot holes though.
Snow tires are essential. I don't have snows on mine so I can't really drive it except on sunny days when the roads have melted off. I hit a couple inches of drifting snow at about 60mph & had the rear walk out quite a ways. Not fun.

You may want to ask some of the NYC guys (and gals) what they think. I know more than a few of them use the S as their daily drivers throughout winter. Try posting this question (or a similar one) in the NYC forum.

It's been snowing in Seattle for some days now and we've got a nice accumulation. I live on a road that doesn't get plowed until late in the game. I don't think the S has enough ground clearance even if it did have enough traction. A friend of mine tried a similar thing in a VW bug and it packed his engine compartment full of snow.
Still I've read of people driving the S through winter and they live in some nasty climates. I don't think it would be for me though.

Just plan on buying a winter tire package from Jim over at Tirerack and you will be fine. I live in North New Jersey and have no problems. The s2000 is my only car. The first awesome day in March when you can put the top down makes the winter seem like a distant memory! But Winter tires are a must!

I got up my driveway in one try. and its on a huge slope.

Blizzak Lm-22s work great
got up hills, got out of parkingspaces that I've sat in for 8hours+ and driving briskly without slipping tires.
I accually took the S out several times durning the snow storms we had, Just to drive in the snow, and do some fancy moves

when it does snow it snows hard, but most streets are back up and running within 3-5 hours. if you cant wait for the sanitation dept to clear the streets, and youre armed with a set of blizzaks, just keep the revs and speed low and dont vtec, and you'll be fine.
as for the streets, use your head when youre driving in nyc. never tail anyone so closely that you cant see the road up ahead. you may get surprised with that monster pothole or those damn plates that the DOT decided to stack 3 high! try to stay out of the right and middle lanes of any highway/expressway (truck lanes = dips, holes, raised centers). try to take the parkways (no commercial vehicles) to your destinations. the s2000 is a bit low, so avoid those manhole covers that stick up like 4", or say buhbye to your oilpan.
just be aware of your surroundings and the terrain ahead and you'll be fine
