Occasionaly 2nd gear grind?
Hey guys, does anyone with a 2002 S2000 also experience an occasional 2nd gear grind when shifting from 1st into 2nd? My transmission has done it from the day I bought it, but i'm afraid to let the grease monkeys at my dealership touch it already. I toured their service bay and I must swear that I don't think there was a single guy over 18-20 years old working back there. I don't know exactly how to reproduce the grind, but it just does it occasionally. Every other gear engages butter smooth, except when upshifting into 2nd. I have 575 miles on it now.................
What's causing this intermiitent grind? The S2000 that I test drove(Sebring Silver) had an amazingly butter smooth transmission that felt incredibly detatched and smooth! However, it was sold to another customer and the dealership let me take it for a quick spin.

My clutch pedal is completely to the floor when I shift. I have tried taking every bit of human error out, but it still seems to do it occasionally. Something I have noticed, is that the faster I slam the shifter into 2nd gear, the less likely it is to grind it going into 2nd. If i've been idling at a light for a while, or i'm facing uphill, it will also slightly grind 1st gear going in from neutral as well.

Out of curiosity, where did you purchase it? I imagine i'll only need 2 quarts at most, right?

The transmission takes 1.6 quarts to fill it according to the manual.

I had the same problem and also solved it by moving the seat one notch further forward. If you let the pedal off the floor at all before shifting into 2nd and you are shifting fast it will grind. The 1 to 2 shift is the quickest most direct shift you make. At first I swore it was the car but then I paid close attention to the clutch and realized I was inducing it. Moving the seat forward solved the problem.
