Default Odd Carfax History Event

Hi guys,

I am in the market for a S2000 and one of the cars I am interested in has two weird entries in the carfax:

12/11/2009 - Battery replaced, engine/powertrain computer/module reprogrammed
4/22/2010 - Radio replaced, radio/sound system checked

When I inquired about these from the seller, this was the response:

"when ever there is a battery problem , u hv to reset the radio code.so this is normal service. if u still hv question , feel free to call."

I can barely understand that response. Anyway if anyone can shine some light on this it would be appreciated.

Whenever the power is disconnected, you have to input the security code so the radio works

He may have had an early AP1 00 or 01 and bought an ECU from an 02 or 03.

Ok, so I suppose the radio entry is not a deal breaker, but why would the battery need to be replaced and the ECU reprogrammed on a 2008?

Car sat for a long time and drained the battery? Left the dome light on for an extended period of time? Forgot to turn off the headlights one night? It could be a number of things to cause someone to replace a battery on an '08. I wouldn't find that too odd.

ECU reprogrammed? I've never done that after changing my battery, i think it automatically resets. My immediate thought is that the previous owner is so daft to have the stealership change the battery, that they took advantage of his ignorance and added a phoney charge to his tab 'ECU Reprogrammed'

I find it amusing that carfax even shows this impertinent information.

Dealers are doing that now.

"Washed Car"
"30,000 mile service performed"
"TSB..."

Why would draining the battery out by accident require a new battery?

So I take it no one here thinks these items are of any concern...

For Lead Acid batteries, unless it is designed as a deep cycle battery, completely draining the battery severely diminishes the charge capacity and overall life.

Car batteries are optimized for high current, and their charge plates can get damaged by deep cycling.
