Default OEM Hard top. What did I do wrong?

I haven't had this hard top for very long, and haven't used it much. I was finishing detailing my interior and I wiped the dust and some stain marks off the roof liner with some interior detail spray and a micro fiber towel. That ended up causing nasty scuff marks everywhere. It looks awful. It's making me sick what I just did, and I wanna kick my own ass. lol

Is the roof liner that sensitive? I hope this happened to someone else or something so I don't feel like a total idiot. I guess that vinyl/plastic liner is something you better handle with serious care. Not good.

A detailer might be able to help. They're usually pretty good at stain removal.

Odd. I've wiped the roof liner down with interior detailer before and never had a problem. Any pictures of the damage you've described?

It would be hard to imagine the liner being scuffed up, it is really durable, I spray mine down with 303 aero all the time and wipe it down and never scuffed once. I think your scuff marks are likely just smears of grease or product, is there any way your towel had residual wax on it ?. I would wipe it down with another product and see if it comes clean.

Yes, you have ruined it and now it is worthless. It will probably cause severe health problems as well. But................ Just to be a really nice guy, I'll take it off your hands. Just box it up and send it to me in So Cal and I'll take care of it for you. No charge on my part, just glad to help. PM me for the shipping address. Thanks.

probably residue from the cloth. i would try a clean cloth with warm water and maybe a bit of dish soap to clean off whatever got on it. then proceed to condition with a conditioner..

Thanks for the serious responses. I can't wash these marks out, and they are definitely scuff marks and surface scratches. Thinking now, I never realized the liner was soft. I thought it was hard plastic, so the only thing I can think of is that I somehow put too much pressure on the towel when cleaning it, and caused it to scuff and scratch all around. I can take a picture, but it will likely only verify I'm an idiot. Aww hell, we all make mistakes. Shit happens. Thanks!!
