OEM Honda Subwoofer ...
Anyone purchased and self-installed the Honda OEM Subwoofer on a 2001 S2K? Would like info on cost/installment ... is the car prewired for the sub?
I saw the sub in a Honda accessories guide at the dealership yeaterday ... fits under the passenger seat.

I don't think it was ever officially released. Someone mentioned that it was the same unit that went into the Odyssey minivan and the only difference was suppossed to be the mounting bracket. If I remember the thread correctly, there was a problem with the mounting bracket. I think you can do a search to find more info.
I installed the Kelton OEM Honda sub unit using the wiring harness for the Honda Odyssey. It worked, it made noise, but it was just that, noise. I would not reccomend it at all. It doesn't fit well anywhere in the cabin, and I couldn't even hear it when I put it in the trunk.
The suspense is over, it sucks.

Yes, the original design was to go under the passenger seat. Honda was told it was a 'one size fits all' solution and then once they got them from their supplier they found that wasn't the case. It has since been completely dropped from the Accord accessory lineup and the S2000 one is being completely redisigned to go into the trunk. The last word I got was that they had a test unit 'rigged' into an S2000 and were working on a design that would not only fit but would also be able to be heard. I don't think it will ever be a window shaking one though. They were also talking about trying to fit some tweeters in as well. It will be into next year before they have anything solid on it.

I belive the only place to really put a subwoofer and amp(s) is in the spare tire space. At first this may sound crazy, but when was the last time you actually had a flat other than the slow kind that leeked out overnight?
On the S2K you can't put the spare on the rear anyway. Would you really want to put the space on the front and move the front to the rear? I will always call for a flatbed tow. In case of real emergency I could always carry a can of tire-fixit. In the case of a blowout on the hiway that the tire-fixit can't handle, I'll just be glad if it doesn't kill me.

Oh don't be telling people go sans the spare. You just never know! Nothing like being trapped in the middle of nowhere SOL!
Another good thing to have in every car is a first aid kit and rubber gloves. But I digress...
I think the honda sub is only 80 watts - That ain't going to do much. For the price you might as well get an aftermarket setup. At least a bazooka tube in the truck before going with that.
Good ol' fashioned bridged amp and a subbox and you're set.
