Default OEM stereo question

So I remember...back in the olden days...everyone was in a huff about how crappy the OEM stereo was. At the time I disagreed. 4 years later, I just want to reiterate, I loved the two-speaker set-up back in 1999, and I love it today. It kicks a$$ (for an oem, 2-speaker deal)! Just curious if any more of you think the stock S2000 stereo system is great as-is. BTW, my daily driver has a 12 speaker 400w Alpine/Phoenix Gold/Polk set-up on which I enjoy an extremely loud daily dose of NIN, Rob Zombie, M.Manson, and of course Beethoven (especially his piano sonatas)...so I'm not like your typical grandpa or anything like that. No offense. THANKS!!!

sorry, the stock setup, even the 02 compared to your 00-01, is not good enough to me. I found that I had to turn up the volume to the point it began to distort with the stock system on the highway. drop the top and forget it.

first mod I did was the stereo and speakers, and this was not a priority to me in my other cars.

I understand the '03 stereo is an improvement over the original. I'm sorry to say I don't think much of it. It works fine for me but it is sub par.

If you think the 00 stereo sounded good, then the 02-03 one will blow you away. Big difference when it was updated in 02. That's all I'll say.

Mine is an '00 and after the rear speaker mod, the stock stereo has served its purpose well for me. I'm not one of those who needs to drive around with a
THUMP! ......... THUMP! ........... THUMP! ........... THUMP! that vibrates my teeth and let's my neighbor 2 blocks away know what my taste in music is.
I also realize that being in a convertible, I'm never going to get that home theatre quality and clarity anyway.
I also concede that for some people, this IS important and thus, give them credit for having spent the time and effort to make it so.

Just see my sig. Nothing overboard, just some nice crisp highs, perfect mids, and the THUMP! to top it all off!

stock stereo is good enough for me, i have never been into audio modification anyways, always performance for me. the farthest id go is upgrade the speakers for clearer sound, wont' get too crazy with subs, amps,etc...

I'd hardly agree that the stock stereo is anything to rave over. However, I do find that it does it's job well enough for me, so I haven't put any money into modding it and don't really plan to.

The 8 speaker stereo setup in my 93 MR2 was incredible!! You really felt like you were sitting in a stereo chair!! At least that's what my mom used to say whenever she'd drive it! My 02 has a decent stereo setup but it definitely feels empty without some sound from behind you, which is why I am considering getting the speaker headrests. It's an OEM stock modification which is what I like however, it seems that those are either 3 way speakers or 2 tweeters, both not a good setup since this car already has adequate treble. I think 2 way speakers would work best so that way you can get that added base and midrange.

In summation, the 02 setup is not bad IMO.
