Default Official Spoon Calipers Info released...

Wow... Spoon has already posted info on the production 4-pot calipers... and they look EXACTLY THE SAME as my pre-production set! In other words... Spoon BLUE!

Click on their website:
http://www.spoonsports.co.jp/j/f_top.html

... then click on SPOON - Topics...

... then click on the 2nd item from the top dated 2001.8.17 (it has the word S2000 as part of the japanese title)

Check out the Flash images of the calipers... you can view them from all angles... man, do they ever look SWEET! I never really had a chance to inspect them before they were installed on my car... but now I can see why my car feels like it has air brakes now! Again... the only word for the Spoon 4-pot brake calipers is AWESOME!

It usesstock sized pads.

I'm confused, Spoon AP1, your sponsor (A&J Racing) gave me a quote on the calipers over a month ago; but you're saying they were just released?

I'm pretty sure I even saw them on the Spoon site back then:

Wes, Spoon has had them for a while, I've even had them on my catalog. Same goes for their cams, but just because they have a pricing or a part number doesn't mean they have them available (i don't know why).

4373: the calipers are about half the weight of stockers, and you'll need the spoon wheel type offset for these calipers (or you need wheel spacers on other wheels) to fit properly.

as for pads, i recommend Endless, but of course i'm pluggin' away

porterfields from Bulletproof are fine also.

4373,

Did you order the Regamaster EVOs in 45mm fronts? If so, I don't know if the calipers will fit.

When I specified I wanted the 45mm offsets, I had no intentions of getting the Spoon calipers, but after looking at the pics, I'm having second thoughts. Sort of...

Not all ten of the questions were answered. Sure would help if they were. Also, any chance of getting them in a different color?

7. How much better do they displace brake fluid temperature.
8. How accessable and how much is a 4 pot rebuild kit?
9. How easy is it to switch pads?
10. Do the pads squeeeeeel?
OK here are my answers:

1) They run same pads size as stock

2) Spoon 2.8kg vs stock 4.27kg

3) These calipers sure decreases stopping distance and provide better brake cooling competable with OEM ABS.

4) These calipers doesn't come with pads so pads wise, you can put wutever you want.

5) You can run any pad as I 've said.

6) These calipers are made out of cast aluminum.

7) by what means how much better????

8) rebuilt kit... not available yet...

9) straight forward like AP or Brembo

10) These caliper won't squeel (pads is exception) all depends.

Sorry for not replying sooner... but I was at work all day and just got home to check this thread! It looks like AJ PwR did a pretty good job answering the questions though...

Wesmaster: Yes, it's confusing... but Spoon had a lot of stuff posted on their site long before they were actually in production and available for shipping. A perfect example are the Spoon Camshafts... on their site, some bogus pricing attached, but no specs... and if you ask Spoon or A&J Racing, they'll tell you the same... NOT AVAILABLE YET! So it IS true that Spoon just released the calipers... have you seen any other S2000's with them? Nope... cuz so far there haven't been any!

Mingster: Hehehe... you took the words right out of my mouth!
Just because it's listed doesn't mean it's available. The nice thing about the Spoon calipers is that it's designed to work with the stock ABS brake pump... and stock sized discs... so you get optimal street braking. Remember the Brembo units tested a long time ago in Road & Track or something? Good braking, but the ABS couldn't keep up because the pump wasn't matched to the oversized calipers. Endless makes amazing brake pads... and the CC-X is their newest and best... NO SQUEAKING at all! I don't have any way of testing my brakes other than by the good ol' butt-o-meter... but I'm telling you... SIMPLY AMAZING!!!

DeeGYM: You MUST have the 35mm offset Spoon/Regamaster wheel for the calipers to fit... the clearance between the caliper and the wheel is incredibly tight... like 1 mm!!! You would need spacers for the 45mm offset, just like AJ PwR said...

Hey Richard, does the offset have to be changed for the stock rims?
Thanks,

Ken
