Some stupid idea to think about:
I had hold those spoon caliper on my hand a few months ago and
taken a close look at it.
Found out it used the same size brake pads as the stock brake.
The only benefit for using the Spoon caliper is a little bit reduction on weight and a little bit increase in piston area.
Radius(Torque arm) of the brake rotor doesn't change as it uses the stock rotor, friction area doesn't change as it is the same size as the stock pads. How much better will that be for more than $1000 upgrade with this spoon calipers????
I like spoon product and had installed some spoon stuff on my S2000 (see my sig) but I don't think this will be a useful upgrade for increase brake performance with a big price tag.

P.S. Many friends of mine had spoon 4 pods similar to that one installed on their civic and integra and they told me that they sucks. poor than the stock brake but that just their own opinions.

When I originally looked at these back in March they were supposed to be out in April/May and fit behind the stock OEM wheel offset. (In fact there was a picture of a silver prototype behind the OE wheel).
Then I heard they were behind and they would be out in June at an approximate cost of $1700 a pair with pads. What is the actual cost for this 7 lbs. unsprung weight saving caliper?

Well... from personal experience (I don't know of ANYBODY else with the actual Spoon calipers for the S2000 installed...), it is MUCH better than stock... but then again, I installed the Endless CC-X brake pads at the same time...

That's the first I've ever heard of the Spoon 4-pot calipers being WORSE than stock... hard to believe actually. Everybody that I know who has them on Civics or Integras has also made the change to racing pads and the improvement is incredible. We all go to the track and there is zero brake fade compared to stock setups. Better cooling too with the larger aluminum surface area.

I'm no expert, so correct me if I'm wrong, but the Spoon calipers were designed with the stock brake pump in mind... so essentially you are maximizing the stock setup using stock size discs. Of course, you can upgrade the discs, pads, lines in addition to the calipers. How much of an improvement? Hard to quantify... but experience tells me that it IS noticable and the setup works VERY well. The advantage of the 4-pot design is a more even application of the brake pad to the disc (i.e. maximizing the braking surface area) in comparison to stock.

As I recall... they did a review of a Brembo setup on an S2000 some time ago. It had larger discs, larger calipers... the works. Everything you would expect for the "ultimate setup"... and yet the performance was poorer than stock because the stock brake pump could not keep up with the bigger calipers and discs. So... unless you have the $$$ to change the ENTIRE braking system including custom pump and lines... Spoon seems to have the best solution. Heck... they use these very same calipers on their N1 Race Car!

As far as I know, they will NOT fit behind the stock wheels. I have the recommended 35mm offset Spoon wheels up front and they clear the calipers by only 1mm!!! Cost-wise, I have been informed that they should run about $1600-1700 US for the calipers alone... but cost should come down if demand is high enough...

Is it worth the cost? Depends on the individual... as for me, I am totally in love with the Spoon calipers combined with Endless CC-X brake pads. I won't argue with anybody over which is "better"... but in my eyes, Spoon is AWESOME... and besides, that ELECTRIC BLUE color is soooooooo cool!

Your spoon calipers combined with your Spoon wheels is the lightest combination and greatest unsprung weight savings out there. With stiff front damping your coilovers should effortlessly rebound that lighter weight to keep your tires glued to the asphalt.

The stock brakes are so good it's hard to show gains in braking distance any one else can get from a pad & lines upgrade. I know my Spoon cross drilled rotors don't stop the car any faster, but they do stay cooler and help eliminate fade under heavy braking sessions.

Your car looks great and I'm sure runs strong, so when are you going to paint it blue and yellow?

Hahaha... I think my car is too eye-catching already! The ARC GT-wing is already a huge magnet for cops... I feel like everybody is watching me when I drive. Painting it blue and yellow would just be too outrageous... but it IS tempting sometimes!

Thanks for the compliments though... looking at your mods, we are actually quite similar in our selection of parts... actually, I think your car is probably more modded out than mine!

It would be very cool if we could compare them side-by-side...

Here are some info for the Spoon calipers:

-They are almost 50% lighter over stock

-big 4 a piston to improve braking (big increase in clamping power)

-aluminum made for giving out heat to make the brake cooler so.. more constant braking

-if you run Spoon calipers, I don't there's reason to run stock pads. More or less you will run aftermarket pads like Hawk or Endless...etc.

I have the Spoon calipers on my Civic with CTR brake conversion and I notice a BIG difference especially high speed braking 100km/h-0km/h or 200km/h-0km/h. I always run them on the track and I didn't realiize that the brakes are getting worse same to all my customers.

Wileecoyote as stated a very good point that the Spoon calipers doesn't increase the friction area cuz they are running stock pads but with the BIG pistons it will incredible improve it since you will not run stock pads with it. I think ppl are not stupid to run stock pads with any 4 pot calipers.
