Puts undue strain on the power steering, and to a lesser extent wears the tires prematurely (bnot that we have to worry about front-tire wear...).

Hey guys,

I just purchased an 07 Silverstone a week ago and I have 400 miles on the clock. I am coming from an 04 honda accord 5 speed manual and I am noticing a few things about the s2k that are driving me absoloutely insane. Can you verify that these are "normal" characteristics of the S?

1. When I shift into first from standing still, the whole car kinda jerks with a "thump" noise.

2. When i turn the steering wheel while standing still, it makes some sort of a "rubbing" noise but it can only be heard at night time when it's really quiet outside.

3. When i start off from standing still in first gear while the steering wheel is turned to any direction, the diff makes an audible whine. This is only audible when the steering wheel is turned and i am starting off in 1st. If the steering is straight, the noise is not present.

I mean i absoloutely love the S and i cannot wait till the break-in is over, but these noises are driving me insane. Please tell me that they are normal. Hehe...thanks in advance.
Don't worry i have the same thign on my 06.

1. that first thing went away after 3K miles

2. that rubbing thing i get it every time i make u turns, it turns out it's the p/s assembly that makes the rubbing noise, the noise has started to fade away i now have 7K miles on the car

3. Diff whine is normal i can hear mine it's basically the diff casing of the car it's not that thick... Comparing to other cars like a BMW, Audi the diff casing on those cars are thick.

all in all 2 and 3 is nothing to worry about 1 on the other hand keep an eye on it. make sure it does not get worse.

Thanks for all the replies. I've driven about 5 different S2ks repeatedly forever and some but they were all AP1s with none of those forementioned noises. Ah......no more worrisome nights i can sleep in comfort. =)

For problem 1, try shifting into 2nd before shifting to 1st.
