Default Oil

I have a 2002 s2k and just changed the oil (synthetic) for the first time. I noticed it was one quart low at the time. Is anyone else having a problem with oil disappearing? There are no leaks and it's not smokin'.

I assume you haven't been checking you oil level regularly and only discovered this at the oil change? You are very lucky it was only down 1 qt. Some owners have reported going through as much as 1 qt in 1000 miles. It is more common that this engine uses oil than those that don't. It usually tapers off by around 10K miles or so but some have reported using oil to some extent or another till as high as 70K miles. It's just the nature of the beast.

Here's a Honda Service Bulletin from the fall of 2001 that addresses your question.

yup, i burned a quart every 1000 miles for the first 5 or 6000 miles... then the usage slowed way down (rings seated??)- now running synthetic (after 12000 miles) with no significant usage noted.
