Oil burn. How often do you have to add oil?
I have 5600 miles on my car. I had the first oil change done at 3900 miles. I Vtec regularly. We had beautiful weather here in Indy yesterday so I went out for a long drive. Before I left I checked the oil. Not one ounce of oil burn. I hear so many people complain about how much oil they burn and I would like to know some specifics if possible? Also, did you break in the car according to the owners manual? Is there any correlation between oil burn and how you broke the car in? Thank you for your input.

Supposedly, there is a correlation between how often you VTEC and the oil useage. I have about 6200 miles on mine and still have to add oil to it. I did break the engine in according to the owner's manual. Not that I drive it that hard all the time. Just keep checking your oil level to be sure you don't run low. Plus, I don't think a lot of people are complaining about having to add oil, just that they've never had a car that required so much oil to be added all the time. No biggie though.

After about 2000 miles, to my stunned eyes, I had to add a quart of oil. This is more than the combined total of the previous 4 cars I have owned. By the way, they were all what you would consider high performance cars.
In addition, I have never even had the car over 6000 rpm.

I just don't buy the 600 mile break-in period. I never will understand the logic of redlining a engine at 600 miles.
These engines are still tight at 5000 miles. By redlining a tight engine you are unnecessarily stressing the components.

I have over 71k miles and have burned oil since day 1. I VTEC quite frequently and can expect to add about a 1 quart per 4,000 miles. I all try to keep it topped off at all times.
However, I did have some periods where the oil consumption tapered off. I'm still not sure as to why that happened.

I rev mine pretty good some times and did not stick to the "recommended" breakin very well. I think I Vtec'ed it about 5-7 times in the first 600 miles. It runs like a champ. I didn't even have much oil burn in the first 4000 miles. Maybe a quart at the most.

I'm only at 850 miles, followed the break-in procedure and just had to add about 2/3 of a quart tonight. At 390 miles, the dipstick showed full. At 520, one X was uncovered. Tonight there were 3 X'es uncovered. I did put 160 VTEC-filled miles on it today, so that may have played into it.
