The best oil available is Amsoil ATM 10w-30, or redline 10w-30. don't use synthetic oil till you have about 7-10k on it. until then use a good dino oil. and honda makes a S2k specific oil filter.

they don't do anything special for your first oil change. and yeah, probably shouldn't switch to synthetic yet til bout 10k or so.

i use have gone through all kinds of different filters from mobil1, k&n, and oem, but i don't go for the oem anymore as i am too lazy to go to the dealer or order online, so i get the other stuff, i have no problems. i really like the k&n, but they are like $11.

A quick read of your maintenance shedule in your owner's manual would have answered this for you.

Here's what Honda will do for your vehicle if you take it for that first oil change:
1) They will get your steering wheel dirty, crappy and oily.
2) They will leave greasy fingerprints all over your dash and speedometer.
3) They might leave the old gasket stuck to the block, then screw in the new oil filter and you will have one major oil leak and possibly a fire a few miles down the road.
4) They will probably not bother to properly torque the filter nor the drain bolt.
5) Distinct possibility of a door ding on either side of the car.
I strongly suggest you make a small investment in tools and do this easy bit of maintenance yourself, thus potentially saving yourself a GREAT deal of frustration, aggravation, mental anguish, money (down the road) and pain.
Cheers

But this isn't mentioned in the owner's manual??!!

Add this:
6) They will wash your car with the equivalent of an SOS pad.

Last time I checked, ALL oil filters have a rubber gasket.
In the S2000, -as in all cars- you need to make sure this gasket doesn't get stuck in the block. There have been a couple of threads about oil change joints leaving the old gasket on, then screwing on the new filter, -rubber gasket on top of rubber gasket- next is one ugly big oil leak, spill, fire on engine bay....not good.
