Oil Change Interval
well, I voted for what I was doing.
But for my next oil change and there after, I thought about synthetic every 3-5k depending on my driving style/season. more often over summer, less often over winter.

I thought the reason you go synthetic is, so you can get oil changed for a longer interval?
I personally use conventional oil and I get oil changed every 3k miles. I thought about switching but I always forget to ask for them.

YIKES, a couple of people said 8k miles or more? Why? Oil is one of the cheapest forms of insurance you can buy for your car!

Frankly, this poll shows that many people are changing more than they need to. The 3K change interval, for most drivers, is a relic of the old carburetor days. It certainly generates revenue for the oil companies, which is why they love to sell you an expensive synoil, but throw in the "change at your regular interval". I suppose I would do the same thing in their place, but I am not in their place - I am a consumer.
And keep in mind that Mercedes, BMW, and others have gone to "use driven" change intervals, with a complex algorithm driver by the various sensors in the car. For ythose cars, oil changes in excess of 8,000 are not exceptional, they are the rule.
While it may make an owner "feel good" to overchange the oil, it certainly does have environmental and geopolitical impacts that a thinking person might want to consider. I am no greenie, but neither am I self-serving in terms of the impacts my decisions have - which is one reason I generally use petrochemicals (gas, oil) made either from domestically-sourced raw materials, or which do not support our "friends" in Saudi Arabia.

I use the analogy changing oil is like changing your baby's diaper. The longer it sits the stinkier it gets. In this case the darker it gets. How much longer would you keep the stinky diaper on the baby? When it's time to change, then just do it. It will make you and your baby, in this case your car, feel much better.
