Oil Change Interval
Synthetic relieved me of some of the stress that comes with being a new S owner
. You don't feel so wicked..
I'm sticking w/ the syn and manufacturer suggested oil change intervals. I would consider my driving habits(short distances) to be somewhat severe conditions. When I bring the oil, my dealer only charges me $10 to change it, replace filter, top off fluids, wipers etc. So I pay $37 total w/syn, while they send me coupons for $26.95 w/ conventional oil. $10 for syntheic is a no brainer for me.
I also remember seeing photos of two S2k's w/ the valve covers off sitting side by side. The con-oil F20 head had developed a dark brown tone inside. The interior of the syn-oil F20 head was damn near the same color as the rims. The thread was on this site, maybe a year ago. ??

Some math to consider:
Tires $700/14,000 miles = 5 cents per mile
Depreciation $30,000 / 150K miles = 20 cents per mile
Gas $2 / 20 miles = 10 cents per mile
Syn Oil $ 35 / 3000 miles = 1.1 cents per mile - insignificant WRT conventional.
Yes, you could save money by using less toilet paper too.
