Just picked MY01
It has 13.5k miles on it.
Based on the service records I found in the car, the oil was last changed at 9 k miles in 2/03 when the previous owner got the 15k maint. service done.
I checked the oil & it looks clean & full
The manual says change every 7500 miles.
Should I change it now or wait another 3k miles?

7500 miles is appropriate if you only do highway driving, but most of us fall under the severe category...which is 3750 miles. i'd change it now. btw i would change my oil every 3000 miles or 3 months, whichever comes first.

What's the best type of oil to use in these cars?

 

castrol gtx 10w30, has a high count of molybdenum....which is the stuff found in the "special" breakin fluid.

stick with regular dino oil until 10k miles, you want the engine to break in properly until then.

 

But, the car has 13.5 k miles on it!
Should I use something else?

 

sorry didn't read that. you can stick with regular dino oil or go with mobil 1 synthetic 10w30. you don't HAVE to use anything else.
