I am a realatively new s2000 owner. I know that I can use regular oil and my engine will be fine, but i dont mind paying for synthetic if it is better for my engine. So my question is, will I gain anything by using synthetic?

 

its a personal decision... i use synthetics cause i go a long time between changes (because i dont put many miles on the car). i understand that synthetics dont degrade by time as badly as dino oils.

just wait until you have about 10,000 miles before you make the switch.

My S is my daily commuting car to work, and the distance is 10 miles round trip on city streets. I would do 6 months oil changes if I use regular oil, I have Mobil 1 in my S now and I am going to do once a year oil change. I am using PCX filter and I think it is good for more than 6k miles and it does not need to be changed half way.

My other cars are '00 E430 and '94 LS400, Mobil 1 are in them and I change oil and filter for those cars once a year or 15k miles, whichever is first. '94 LS 400 has more than 160k miles and '00 E430 has 70k miles and no oil related problems with the engines.

If you like to use synthetic oil after 10k miles, 5W40 is the one to use.
