Both my 2002 and 2003 used a lot of oil...

I have to admit though that I beat the living crap out of those 2 cars on a daily basis(VTEC every single chance I got, staying in VTEC for too long in a gear, shifting at redline over and over and over) and aside from eating oil they didn't complain one single bit

What's a few more dollars a month of oil though?

Your car is an MY00, same as mine. My car uses no oil between changes (3,000 mile intervals) in spite of being driven hard and autocrossed frequently. However, the amount of consumption you're seeing is quite normal for the F20C. I'm not convinced that it is related to the way the car was broken in, but consumption varies widely from car to car and driver to driver.

I think that maybe it has something to do with whether or not the car was broken in a certain way. Of course I have no proof of this, but I just think there has to be a reason...
I suspect that there are a number of factors that will affect consumption, but back when we were driving and autocrossing Fiats I broke in identical engines, one the way I normally do, and the other by simply driving the stew out of it from day one, and there was no difference at all, in either oil consumption or reliability. That wasn't what I'd expected, but that's the way it turned out.

That said, I do go through a rigorous break in cycle with any new engine, and it's really rare for any of our cars to consume as much as a quart of oil between changes, regardless of how hard they are driven. That's been the case with almost every car we have owned. LOL, we did have a Vega that used a quart every 600 miles (dealer said it was normal), but the Vega was such a piece of junk it doesn't seem that it sould count.

It could be that produciton tolerances are a bigger factor than the way the engine is broken in. I really don't know for sure, I agree with you when you say that "there has to be a reason."

My '03 has about 20k miles on it. I run Mobil 1. Lots of autocross. I go through about 1 quart in 7,500 miles.
