You probably don't want them to total it, depending on how much you owe on the car. The insurance company will only give you wholesale. So if you owe more than that, you're screwed! Unless, you have GAP coverage. Then you're covered for up to the amount you owe on the car.

Unless you owe far below wholesale, having your car totaled usually sucks because you lose a ton of money on the deal.

From what was stolen, I'm not sure if it will total the car. But it seems like it's not enough to total it, especially with no engine or structural damage.

They'll give him mor ethan wholesale for it... They have to give him the cost of what it would be to replace the car with the same exact car....

I'll bet that if it's totalled, he get $32K easy.... The car is basically brand new!

It's not going to cost $13,000 to fix. Maybe $7-8k tops, if in fact they only stole what you mentioned above.

I don't think so. While most home insurance policies will pay for replacement, very few auto insurance policies will pay for replacement cost. They usually pay for the value of the auto at the time of loss, which is usually lower than what you must pay to replace it.

I had to replace just one of my headlight housing, because of someone's truck backing into the front of my car. It alone was over $500.00 just for the headlight housing. And that was just for a deep scratch on the plastic.

Sorry to hear about your car...

I'm considering getting one of these and just have it sitting in the passenger seat when I'm away from the car.
