Opinions on modding....
I'm not entirely sure where to post this, but this seems like a good place.
I am curious what everyone's opinions are on leaving this car in stock form. Let's say for whatever reason you could not mod your S2000; would you still own it?
Here's the deal: I've read/seen a lot of threads lately about people boosting this car, spending X amount of dollars on parts that are more for bling than actual horsepower, bolting on crazy body kits, adding huge wheels, and so on and so forth. I have nothing against any one modding their car into so show winning, dyno breaking, babe magnet; it's just not something I want to do. Ya see, I was at this guys house tonite and there is this dude who is running his mouth about all the mods out there for my S. He's just spouting off this name brand and that. He is a competant mechanic, but also a big know-it-all, so I was ignoring him. Finally I told him I didn't have any plans for the car except to lower it and put an exhaust on it (Mugen). You would have thought I just told this guy the Cubbies won the world series. He was appalled.
He questioned why I even bought the car if I didn't want to mod it... Now this pissed me off. I asked him why he thought all this was neccessary and basically his answer was "To improve upon the car's performance" but with a few four letter words.
This guy was acting like a complete tool because I want to leave my car mostly stock. Am I the only person that thinks this car is so well engineered that it can actually be left in stock form and still be enjoyed? I am most definetly a car guy, and my first love was hot rods. Hot rodding is all about build ups and crazy mods, but I just happen to think my S2000 doesn't need it for me to enjoy it.
Let me reiterate the question: For whatever reason you are unable to mod your S2000; would you still own one? My answer: Abso-friggin'-lutely.

i am not sure what you are asking, but if i understand sort of what, my answer is that ilike the car the way it comes out of box, and if there isanything i might want to change along the way i will do so regardless of anyone elses opinion.
You are right man. The S2000 stock is perfect. A full exhaust is a good mod, full meaning a nice header and a full exhaust. Still if I were you, I would have told that guy the he knows about all the mods, but you're actually driving the s2000.

No way in hell would I buy an S2000 if I couldn't do anything to make it better.
Why??Yeah, modding is fun and it adds some personality to your car. It's also expensive, especially if you take into consideration the benefit/dollar for this car (as compared to some others).
Am I against modding? NO WAY.
If I had my choice of purchasing an S that would have to stay stock vs. buying a cheaper car and being able to mod it, would I still choose an S. HELL YES!
Would I consider purchasing a used S in order to have money left over for mods if that was something I was into. YES.
To each his own. If you want to lower it and put an exhaust on it, then call it a day, then more power to ya.
All you "younger" guys have to realize that moding is not in everyones genes. I mean I am not going to mod my car for performance, I just don't want to spend any more money on it than I have and it is more than adequate for my driving. Almost all the mods I can think of, I would be better off saving for retirement. I guess all of us are not in the same financial position, but to me a mod is not worth working an extra month when I am 58-59.
That said, in an area I consider the S2K lacking is the sound system, and I am in the middle of adding to that. I just can't hear enough sound at speed with the top down. Of course that will not cost me 2-5k either.

I would have still bought it if I couldn't mod it. Hell when I did buy it i didn't think i would even have the money to do any mods to it because I am so young and the payment is quite a bit for me, but with a little help from the rents and alot of hard work/saving of my cash, I managed to slap a few goodies on it
Nothing major or extremely expensive, but just enough to add a little personality and make it scream

Yes, I would buy it even if I couldn't mod it. In actuality, when I bought this car, I had no plan to mod it at all. It just happened over time.
Modding or not modding is a personal choice. That's the beauty of having rights and freedoms. Respect what each owner decides to do. Don't slam him/her for doing something or not doing something that you would do or not do.
What really ticks me off is someone in the "keep it stock" camp going around preaching how wrong it is to change the car. The same would go for the other way around.
