ordering an S from the factory and timing question!
Here's my take:
APRIL HUVAL (board sponsor) is shipping in covered transit a black/red 2002 to me in Seattle @ a couple hundred dollars under MSRP.
Why am I doing it like this?
1) She went by my terms of the deal and it only took two minutes to come to agreement ($500 deposit, 2-3 months delivery ETA).
2) She's a pleasure to deal with and she's done this many times before with contacts thru this board.
3) I don't mind the wait.
4) I want to support the people who sponsor S2ki.com.
EZ.

I would love to go outside of CA and order the car (especially from a board sponsor). The problem is the damned state of CA.
New vehicle reg's are very, very, very un-friendly when it comes to new cars (less than 5,000 miles on the clock) being bought outside of CA and brought into the state. Even if the car is a "50 state car". At least that's my understanding from fellow CA residents who tried to buy outside of CA and bring the car in and one phone conversation with the CA DMV.
If anyone in CA has done differently or believes this to be crap, please please please let me know!

i will be glad to once I've actually received the car. I know it's a bit silly, but I don't want to jinx it. Everything about dealing with this dealership has been top notch thus far.
I absolutely intend on giving the dealership (and especially my contact) a good plug on the board once the transaction is completed. To date, as I said, everything has been great. I'm scheduled to take delivery the middle of this month. So long as no "last minute surprises" (i.e. dealer add ons and dealer insignias show up)I'll be glad to pass on the 411.
