I was running my S2K at the track (TWS) for the first time this weekend. It was a little wet on the track. I came off the apex of a right downhill turn into the infield and lost the rear end. I was just going too fast for the conditions. I spun and drifted right, then THUD! I grazed the edge of a tire wall with the front bumper. Knocked 3 or 4 tires into the air. Slid backward another 50 yards in the mud. They couldn't pull me out 'cause I didn't have the eye bolt with me, but we finally pushed it out. Sent everybody in the run group back to the hot pit. Recomendation: bring your eye bolt with you onto the track just in case.

The front looked bad at first. The facia was torn off on one side and had lots of black tire marks. After I put the bumper back together and buffed out the marks it looks okay. It has 2 one-inch long splits in the plastic that I painted with touch-up. The headlight lens is scratched, but I think I can buff it out. Amazingly small amount of damage for hitting a tire wall! I feel very lucky.

CRINGE, SHUDDER...GRRR>

Glad you are ok. I hate hearing about damages to S2Ks. But it all comes with the sport of racing. Nothing like rubbing fenders wity a Porsche while running a downhill valley run through a 45 MPH turn. Racing is fun!

If you got the scars while doing something you enjoy, wear the scar proudly. I have desert strips all over our Jeep from scraping brush, and a banged up bumper on a 4wd Mazda 323 from lossing it running hard on a dirt road, but doesn't bother me a bit. But the smallest scratch from a wayward shopping cart just p!ss me off!!!!!

Wow, sorry to hear of the mishap but it does sound like you are ok and the car not too bad. Good advice on the tow hook.. did you empty your trunk before heading to the track? I sure hope I continue my luck having a dry track.. you are the second S2K I know of that has found their way into the mud at TWS.

What configuration was the track in? Sounds like you were running something different than the last two times I was there.. we had turn one as a left off the high bank down to the infield.. normally at about 120 so I

Dave, sorry to hear about your mishap! Like Greg, with his torn-off side strake from his "beach party," wear it with pride!

For the scratch in the headlight lens, I'd try the 3M Marine Plastic Polish. It says on the bottle that you can clean up scratched CD's with it, so I would imagine that it would help your headlight lens as well.

Good luck!

cdelena:
I emptied the trunk after I got to the track, but I couldn't get back to the garage very quickly after I ran off. Now I carry the tow hook in my seatback pocket.

We were running the 2.9 mile configuration, using the loop outside of the oval. I lost it in turn "F", just before crossing the oval back into the infield. They put down a few patches of asphalt sealant out there that are really slippery when wet. Lots of people went off in the back loop. I was one of 8 during that run alone. The other S2K also went off the day before.

SondraS2K:
Thanks, I'll try the Marine Plastic Polish. Thank goodness the lens didn't break.

Someone said they would send me pictures of my car after the incident, so maybe I can post them. The passenger side of the car was completely covered with mud and grass, but I had my top up. A Boxter went off during the same run with his top down. What a mess! Every inch of the interior was splattered.

The worst part was sitting on the track as everybody in the run group slowly drove by on the way to the hot pit. Nothing like being on display after crashing and stopping the run session.
