Just recommended speed for upshifts. It assumes that the people driving it have a little common sense, but that's assuming way too much in the litigious USA.

overringing is not hondas fault, its 100% driver responsibility. this will happen on any car with a manual transmission. honda assumes that everyone who buys a s2k knows how manual transmissions work, and mechanical overrevs are not prevented by the rev limiter(which is only useful when upsfhiting).

stop blaming honda and try improving your own driving skills.

Dude, chill out. It was a joke based on some of the ridiculous stuff I saw on the thread DaveZ referenced.

My S2000 is alive and well in my garage and is lucky enough to have an owner who knows how to drive a manual transmission car without having to consult a table to know when he can downshift.

I think it is REALLY easy to mis-shift and over-rev in S2000's shift gate because the gates are REALLY close together.

Unless driver shift with thunbs down, it is very easy to go into wrong gear.

I NEVER had mis-shifting problems with European cars where they have really wide gates.

I ALMOST over-rev my S2k when I got the car, but now I learn my lessen and shift with thums down on 3-4-5-6.

If you shift properly you'll never miss shift. Sure, I don't shift properly 80% of the time, I do the good old "big fist over the shifter" method... but when I'm actually driving anywhere near redline, I always shift properly.

You can also let the shifter guide its self. It centres to go into 3 or 4, hit the left wall of the box to go into 1 or 2, and the right wall for 5 or 6.

Spring centers on third/fourth gear. You HAVE to pull to left to hit second.
What a tool .

Edit

I'm just a little slow. Maybe that's why I have never shifted from fifth to second
