The suspension is tuned for 400#'s or less. It has nothing to do with the engine. Anything more than the cargo limit can cause damage to the suspension and is unsafe for driving (handling). If you have more cargo than 400#s to carry around, buy a SUV.

I think the Element's load capacity is only 675 lbs - four 180 pound dudes and you're over the limit.

it is not 400lbs PLUS bodies, it is flat 400 lbs. so, basically, me, the wife and an ipod, her pocketbook and we are at the limit. add an overnight bag, and we are overloaded.

guess this car was made for skinny ass asians, not us beer guzzlin' rednecks
