Default Overrevved

I have a MY01 and went to pass someone going 72mph and instead of 4th hit 2nd, I did a REAL easy downshift not forcing it in which made the whole thing surprise me.

Now I caught it before I let the clutch all the way out because of the horrendous non 4th gear sounding engine noise, the tach lit up to 8k, no higher.

According to gear speed calculator 72 in 2nd is 97-9800 rpms, is that high enough for damage and the fact I caught it in a spit second mean anything?

Also idles, drives fine and rear tires did not lock up. Please tell me it will be all right lol.

Thanks!

I've done this a few times as well...not quite the same situation, but shifting into second around 70-75mph...but normally catching it...only time I didn't catch it I was around 72 like you, on the track and downshifting for a corner...I was trying to grab second just thought I would have slowed down enough by the time I slipped the clutch out...apparently not. But even then the car was fine.

If this is true, why are you obsessing over an over-rev that didn't happen? There is no point in calculating what the rpm is for 72 mph in 2nd if you know your rpm never got there.
