in all honesty......I got a Miata as my first car......having never driven it......I totalled it cause oversteer in the wet happened to me and i didn't know what to do.....I didn'even recognize it as oversteer.

I got another Miata.....and had the county police department driving instructor give me "private lessons" (thanks to a friend of mine)in my Miata. I got to see what it feels like to go into oversteer at 40 mph in the wet.....what hydroplaning feels like.....how to handle someone coming over into your lane with cars around you......how to use the E-brake in an emergency to pivot the car so that you can avoid a stationary object......what threshold braking is and how it works....and ya know what......not only was it fun to do what I've only seen done on TV, but I've saved my own life three times.

if you are as young as I think you are.....I can let you in on a big secret: the hardest part of driving isn't the driving.....it's the situational awareness needed to pull off the techniques required for good driving. if you don't know where to "look", you'll never be able to corner properly or even correct oversteer because you'll always be going in the wrong direction. this is the lesson that was impressed upon me the most.

a smart move would be to delay the desire to have the S......I'm not trying to preach.....I just don't want you to possibly be one of the statistics that is in the black book over at my insurance company in the actuaries office....ya know.

Sorry my post is so long....I just jump at the chance to try to impart what little expeirience I have in this world to someone younger.

it's not what he asked but may be what he meant.

I think he/she is asking about steering ratios...but that's not what his initial question asks.
