Default The overstuffed S2000

Ugh. Last two vacations, took the spousemobile; once so we could carry the bicycles, once to carry the MIL. Just plunked down $$$ for reservation at the beach vacation (not for some months yet) and I'm adamant to take the S2000.

We've done it before, and the Miata before that. It's a bit tough stuffing a week's (or more?) stuff in the trunk. OK, I don't mind packing really light (ever try bicycle camping? You learn a lot that way) but, ahem, I'm married. I've resorted to things like, when going at end of season, don't take beach chairs but buy them at the beach at the 1/2-price end of season sales, then leaving them behind. But I would not might toting along a wee bit more than what fits in the trunk, like a bunch of wine from my collection rather than what's at the beach grocery store.

Hmmm, I recall the days of aftermarket trunk racks, once popular with the Brit roadster crowd (the Tiger has a big trunk, thank you very much, but no way am I taking it on vacation). Anyone have expereince doing anything like that on a S2000? I recall reading there were several types: the permanent bolt -on , one that unhooked when not in sue but there was still something on the car forever , and the fully removeable type with suction cups and straps/hooks that went to the edges of the deck lid. I guess the latter might be the best bet.

Alternatively, I could see (but the $$$$ solution) is a trailer hitch and then one of those plug-in cargo decks like you see on SUVanovers.

With the top up, you can stuff a ton of soft and small items into the trunk well.

You can add a hitch ($400 or so)

You can add a trunk rack - https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/599...-rack-for-s2k/

Take out the tool shelf and put soft bags in the bottom.
I've crammed so much stuff in the trunk of my S it's silly.

Took all this for an S2k detail day:

And fit it into the trunk PLUS an overnight bag and other knickknack stuff that the GF wanted to bring along

It helps to be REALLY good at Tetris......

I've been looking at the "Boot-Bag." http://boot-bag.com/

I'm spending a week out at the Dragon for ZDayZ in early Spring. My fiancée is coming along so I don't think we're going to have space without some sort of trunk rack style solution. If I go this route I'm going to lay some 3m clear film down on the trunk lid to ensure I don't scratch anything up.

Id just as easily buy a spare trunk and call it my travel trunk. let it get dinged up, put stickers on it from where it had been, let people I meet sign it, etc.

If you really need to haul that much stuff around, install a Chase hitch and buy yourself a small enclosed utility trailer. I have one that weighs 300 lbs and sometimes, I forget it's even behind me. The Chase hitch is specially designed for an S2000.

I usually pack a bunch of stuff with the topup in the soft top tray, under the seats, some small things in the spare tire area. Besides, Im willing to make small sacrifices like not changing my underwear for a week if it means being able to take the S
