I don't think you should worry, if they're gonna steal something, they're gonna steal it.

The Ozbourne's got robbed at their mansion at bedside, and you're worried whether you have a garage to protect an exhaust & wheels you don

I've said it before and I'll say it again.......car cover.

You'd be amazed how "invisible" the car becomes with just a simple car cover. I've had Civics broken into, just 2 spaces away from my covered S2K!!!

I'd agree with this one whole-heartedly. If an alarm will deter them, they only need to see that is there. That being said, when I parked my S in the carport behind my apt. downtown, all I had was the standard keyless entry and a small blinking LED that mimicked an alarm. Granted, I also had a hardtop. Never had any problems at all.
Alarms are annoying and where I live, that gives people an excuse to dent your car because no one likes listening to one. By the time you figure out it's your alarm, the damage has usually been done. I

if you are going to worry i wouldnt get it. for me i realize it will get vandalized(already happened) and maybe stolen(seats), and dents/dings(happened) but i dont worry about it. insurance is for that reason.

I was in the EXACT same situation as you... we talked with the building, and per our costs, we had a security camera linked up thru the garage, and right into the security guard's room. There are a lot of cool security camera gadgets you can get... for example, camera's with motion detectors on, that turn on only when they sense motion, you can leave those in your car and connect them to your car battery, they won't kill the car battery at all. Theyre usually tiny, and can be hidden easily. You can get hard wired ones that seemlessly mold into the car. Nokia makes one that works on motion and sends you a picture snapshot continuosly thru email, or to your cell phone, until motion stops.
If youre worried about your car getting stolen as a whole, get Lo-Jack (which is connected to receivers in police cruisers, which literally allow the cops to pin poin the exact location of your car, and therefore, the thieves)... and make sure all your addiotional parts are covered under insurance. Remember, if you have comprehensive, and the parts are BOLTED on to your car, then with a receipt, you can get insurance to pay out

Hehe, I had forgotten about the autolock! I was already intending on lojack + alarm + car cover. I guess an autolock wouldn't be excessive at this point.
