Since I’ve been able to keep my 1994 Suzuki Sidekick alive and well for this long the future looks bright for my garage kept babied S2k.
The Zuk has seen more off-road carnage than a truck should see in a lifetime. Comparatively the S should outlive me.

I haven't posted in a long time. I have owned my 2001 S for 4 years and love driving the car, but keeping the car running has been expensive. I had my engine rebuilt 3.5 years ago and it currently has ~27K miles on the engine (147K body and transmission). The engine runs well, but uses a lot of oil ( a quart every 800-1000 miles). The oil consumption concerns me regarding the longevity of the car. I know some oil consumption is normal and that AP1 tend to be thirsty.

Anyway I'm considering my next option. My heart says drive the AP1 for a few more years then buy a 2004 or 2005 with ~50 to 80K miles. While my brain says buy an ND2 MX5. I'm leaning towards the miata as S2000 parts especially long blocks will likely become far more expensive and rare.

I also considering driving my AP1 till it dies then swap an AP2 engine. I'm little concerned about getting a bad engine and throwing away $5K. Opinions or other options would be appreciated!
I think that if people stop comparing a new Miata to an S2000 and just take it for what it is, it makes a lot of sense. It's only one of the most successful convertible roadsters in history (in terms of sales and length of production). I recall thinking when they first hit the market "Wow! A British-type sports car with Japanese reliability!" New car tech and parts availability (at least for the newer cars) is no issue. Were my S2000 totalled tomorrow and I wanted to replace it, I'd take a close look at a Miata.

I've had my 2005 for almost 12 years now, as a daily driver. I work in the city now and take the train, but it's still my only car. I doubt I'll ever sell it. If anything I would just get another car. There isn't really anything quite like the S. When I want something new, or get an itch for change, I just do something different to the car. Carbon fiber interior, HFC, intake, exhaust, audio upgrades, etc.

When the engine dies I'll hit up inline pro. Maybe even stroke that bitch out to 2.4.

This year September will be my 15th year owning MY2000 AP1 GPW. It has been a blast and the paint and interior has been outstanding and reliable.

About 12.5 years now on my 07 Ap2 as first owner. Definitely a keeper for reasonable cost and great fun factor .

Im keeping my cars for as long as I can reliably run them. I think my next car won't have an ICE.

July 2020 will be two years for me, yet given my S story, I'll be maintaining ownership for, well, the rest of my days...
