Paint Peeling!!!
I think this is a fairly common problem that some people just don't notice. I think my car came from the factory this way. I had paint peeling in the same spot, so when I removed the bumper to install the clear corner headlamps, we touched up the spots (there was more peeling on the part of the bumper that goes under the fender sheet metal). Our little touch up appears to have fixed the problem.
My car is in the shop right now for the peeling paint by the head light. I told them to take the bumper off and touch it up... I don't want them messing up the factory paint. I also told them to call me before they started so I could hear the opinion of the person who was painting it... no one ever called me. Dunno, hope they didn't do what I explictly told them not to.
They also said they might be able to seperate the bumper a fraction or so to prevent the rubbing... I wasn't to keen on this idea, but again no one ever called me tell me what they are doing...
All I know is Honda better get some people looking at this probelm... I dont want to have to constantly touch up my bumper every three months.

If they can't fix the peeling problem with the bumper doesn't that decrease the value of the car!
I'm leasing the car, and HONDA stated any touch-up is NOT a complete repair and thus will charge me at the end of the lease period for the repair! Honda will not sign a release for the peeling problem to the bumper and it seems they can't fix it, so at the end of the lease they will charge me fixing the bumper; I'm screwed either way!!!
It seems that only a few S2Ks have this problem. These cars will have a lower value because of the bumper peeling, which came from the Honda factory. Why should we be penalized for their problem? If I knew this was the result I would have leased another car (the dealer have 6 S2Ks on the lot).
Honda should compensate me by doing something to increase the value of the car because of the peeling problem. To repaint the bumper it costs about $450+ and the three years (lease period) I have to live with the car with a blemish on it!
Someone told me to get Honda to install all the factory spoilers on the car (I have none on the car) at no charge for the compensation to the peeling problem and the lease situation. That might seem fare!

A new rear bumper isnt the solution. A quality paint job is! Plastic parts need a flex agent added to allow for movement. My guess is that it didnt have enough. Honda should pay for it. You might have to go thru the ususal channels.
Id have it spot fixed before having the whole bumper redone.

Do to this thread I was watching closely and it seams (no pun intended) to have appeared only after I pulled too close to one of those concrete thingys that they put at the front of a parking spot, and scrapped the bottom of the bumper. I was not moving fast and was being careful, but the height of it caught me by surprise.
I just got the word from the body shop. Honda is giving me a new front bumper. But it took almost four weeks of bitching and complaining to the body shop and the local Honda dealership. I hope this will resolve the probelm!

New bumper installed!!!!! The body shop stated there was additonal places where the bumper was peeling besides near the fender. Also the replacement bumper felt MORE flexable!!!! MAYBE IT WAS THE BUMPER!!!!!
Only time will tell.
