While performing my first wax job 2 days ago, I noticed some paint peel. It's not by the head light, but it is on the bumper side of the hood to bumper gap near the center of the hood. It's about 2 inches long and about an eighth of an inch wide. My STOOK is silverstone, delivered 5/14/01.

I haven't taken it to the dealer yet for resolution, but plan to next week.

I seems that the installation of a Neuspeed Strut Tower Bar on my car has eliminated the problem of the paint cracking at the join between the fender and the bumper. This suggests to me that the problem was initially caused by uneven flexing, resulting in excessive wear at these joints, leading to the eventual cracking of the paint. Because the STB effectively stiffens the ride and either reduces or eliminates unusual body flexing, then this probably contributes greatly to the reduction in the amount of panel movement.

Anyone having this problem might want to consider a (possible) permanent fix by compressing a thin (1/8" or smaller) rubber pad or sheet between the two parts, and then carefully trimming away the excess (along the ridge) with a razor blade.

Since we're on the topic of paint and dealership reaction listen to this. I go to pickup my stook six days ago. I'm doing my exterior inspection when a gouge in the paint on the bumper just under the hood catches my eye. After my senses returned and the salesman's ears stopped bleeding, everyone ran around the dealership to figure out how to please the enraged S2000 inceptee (me). There remedy was to have me bring my car back on Thursday (tomorrow) and switch it with a bumper on a black stook that they backed off the transporter on Monday. Kinda screwed up, someone is going to get f%*&ed with my repainted bumper out of the dealer! Alas, se la vie. Hey, at least my stook will be perfect.

my 2 month old spa yellow started peeling and i posted the problem on a previous post.

i took it to the dealer, to complain and to have it documented, but i don't want a bigger problem, ie. badly done, mixmatched paint color, or even worse. so i am living with it and watching it.

i think we will have to wait and see, i don't think honda is going to fix the problem, but hey look at it this way. it will be one of those things that make great sports cars great,

The front bumper has a VIN sticker. If this sticker doesn't match the other VIN stickers, then poeple will know that the front bumper has been replaced/changed!!! Thus your car has depreciated because of HONDA mistake! Sucks doesn't it. Should have asked for $2K off the price you paid for the car, when you noticed the problem.

As I was just about to sign papers on my Stook, the dealer reluctantly informs me that legally, he has to tell me about the front bumper of the car being repainted due to a scrape it got on it at the car lot. This was not a good time to be throwing this at me. I had finally decided to get the S2k instead of other cars. They had the exact color and interior I wanted in a S2k on the lot, so I was pretty excited about driving off in it that day when they mentioned the repainting. I checked it out, didn't see anything wrong, and decided to get the car anyway.

Well, since then I have found a small paint run, a couple of bumps from dust or dirt in the paint, and have noticed that the paint is a lighter shade on the passenger side (doesn't quite match the hood or side of the car). Of course, when I bought the car, I had to sign a sheet acknowledging that they told me about the repainting and signing away any rights to make them responsible for fixing it.

Oh well, I got the car for MSRP. Plus, they threw in a CD changer and a car cover for nothing, so I guess I came out okay. No paint peeling on the bumper yet.

UPDATE -

Just received a call from American Honda in Cal. They stated they have "no information regarding the front bumper problem." So I guess we are all just dreaming about it!

They also stated that any information on the WEB is not conclusive evidence that there is a problem. People must complain directly to their dealers, then Honda will recognize the problem!

People who have the peeling problem please write a letter to Honda addressing it.

American Honda Motor Co., Inc.
National Consumer Affairs
1919 Torrance Boulevard
Torrance, CA. 90501

Thank you!

Three weeks after the Honda rep. meeting and still nothing!!!

In case American Honda is watching.... Nose/fender paint peel here too - it appeared during first week of ownership (June 00) - but just got it fixed last week by dealer (touch paint) - an "okay" but not great job done by them.

In general the paint quality over the entire car is poor - very soft and esily peels (check inside your wheel arches - chips become strips) and also slightly orange peeled across large sections.
