Default Paint Peeling

I purchased an 05 S2000 last month. I absolutely love the car. Unfortunately I just noticed a few days ago that where the bumper meets the body panel on the drivers side there is a paint issue. It appears that the paint on the edge of the bumper is peeling or flaking in one small spot (1-2"). I tried to get some decent photos of it but I didn't have much luck.

Now I assume this will be covered under warranty no problem. My question is how is the dealer likely to fix the problem? Will they repaint the bumper or will I get a brand new bumper? Anything I should be worried about with either type of fix? Anyone else have this problem? It was definately a bummer to discover this on my new baby.

There was a thread about this a week or two ago. That thread was primarily about the misalignment of the rear bumper. Looks like your misalignment has caused the paint to "rub" off. I have noticed the same thing on my '04. I haven't done anything about it yet, I plan to take it to the dealer and have them fix it under warranty. That way if the paint is chipped, they won't blame me.

To make your camera auto-focus on the paint area, hold something right in front of the paint (like a piece of paper, or your thumb). Your AF is missing pretty badly.

Or: get a Post-it note, draw an arrow on it pointing to the flaw. Stick it to the car and snap away.

AF works on contrast. It can't do shiat on a uniform surface.

I have the exact same problem on my silverstone 05. My service manager offered to have the rear bumper resprayed under warrantee but i decided to wait it out. So far the peeling has not expanded (knocking on wood). If you want to have it fixed talk to your service manager, mine told me that I could touch it up myself but I decided against that incase they try to give me the run around if i decide to get it resprayed.

Wait for a few stone chips then have the dealer respray the whole bumper.

I noticed the same thing on mine. The pearl paints are a bitch to match so I'm not worrying about it. I hardly notice it.

My Spa has one tiny spot between the bumper cover and rear fender, not worth worrying about but I'd bet this problem is pretty widespread. Most of the S2000 colors are hard to match and I don't want the mating body panels painted to "feather" the color match. Seems like if you get a little bit of grit inbetween the two panels the paint will want to peel.

Good luck with it, I hope the fix is not worse than the problem you had to start with.
