I've got some in-process pics I've done. I don't find the hi-temp paint is necessary. The only flaking I have to go in and fix is where the chrome was around the bulb itself. Any of the black plastic takes and holds the paint and clear just fine. I got my paint from a local colormatch shop, it was about $35. When I go in and respray to fix my little flaking, I will resand the damaged area and use some plastic paint primer. This should help any flaking in the future. You do need to sand the entire piece prior to painting to help the paint hold well. Use a fine sand paper, a good paint shop should be able to point you in the right direction.
The CO2 sprayer was about $6.
And I don't remember what I paid for the clearcoat aerosol, but it wasn't expensive.
I used newspaper to protect my floor while I painted
You have to cook them in the oven. Now Rick recommends using damp cloth to insulate the assembly from the oven rack, but I found that the humidity you introduce to the environment causes issues, especially with the paint, so I used brown paper bags. You won't be heating the oven up enough to burn the paper, so it's not an issue.
You have to remove the bumper to get to all the bolts to remove the headlights. Rick's website is very helpful, and nowadays I can get the bumper off and back on inside an hour.
Here's a closeup of the job before replacing the bumper.
And after the bumper.
And some shots in the sun.
Enjoy. And it's about a day's task on the weekend. Just take it slow and be prepared to work a bit.
That sounds really tedious, but the results look mighty worth it. I recently had my headlight diffusers cleared (thx, Dave!), and there's no WAY I would have attempted to bake apart my headlights. I salute those of you that do, and even more for the results you obtain. Great looking pics in this thread.
