Painted Red Calipers and wear.
For those of you who have painted their calipers, how do they still look after months of driving. Has the paint chipped off pretty bad? Does the heat peel the paint? Do you have to constantly touch up the caliper?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Some friends of mine painted their caliper and track their car at the same time. Let me tell you, it does not look good after track times. It looks pretty burned. He has to clean the whole caliper and repainted again. BTW, the red paint is from high temp resistant exhaust header paint. He also bought a can of those expensive red caliper spray paint. Doesn't work either.
If you want a real red caliper, go with the brembo or Porsche caliper from Movit.

Stealth: That is what I was afraid of. I do not want to have to repaint the calipers everytime I go autocrossing next year. But at the same token brakes pads will wear pretty fast. Hmmm, maybe I should paint them anyways.
Thanks.
Thanks.
I used the Folia Tec caliper paint. This is a picture after the very first track day after I painted them. Not good...
Now, after about 10 more track days after this shot, the paint is either black or completely flaked off. Not good. Would I suggest you paint yours? Well, ummmm, no, not if you track the car. If you don't, then it'll probably be fine.
If you want colored calipers, have them powdercoated. The Folia Tec just didn't stand up and right now, they look just plain horrible...

We sell also a brake caliper paint kit, similar to Foliatec;but I will NOT reccomended it if you track the car.
Fine for normal driving,he will stay shyne and glossy for a very long time.
We have customers with almost 2 years from application and still no problem.

Ditto what Gregstevens said.......I think powdercoating is the way to go if you want durability, not to mention the texture powdercoating gives is cool as well. It's not too expensive either. Only downside I can think of is the turnaround time.

Can anyone tellme what temps I could expect the calipers to get up to under normal driving conditions? I don't race Michelle, and was wondering what temp the paint might get up to for street driving.
