Angry

I painted my calipers red using 500 degree paint from Auto Zone... I forget the brand. But after running a long course with 24 turns, that both the front and rear calipers are burned black. Maybe not a good idea to paint a track car's calipers?
Can anyone tell me how they re-prepared their calipers after burning "street" paint?
Is there a solvent that should be used to remove the old paint?... Or, can I just wire brush and re-coat?

Word?

I should think that 500 degree paint will work for street calipers.
It was only when I really worked the car hard with race pads on a track with many turns and hard braking that I noticed the 500 degree paint burn.
You should be okay with "Auto Zone" paint for street.

Those nice red detailed calipers are fresh and streets, right?
What about hard-working trackers?

Unhappy

Here are mine...

These are HPDE after-effects.
Hard braking with race pads that have a higher friction coefficeint. More heat...

Any idea how I can clean these up and have reds for track events without burning?

7 year bump FTW! i painted mine red 6 months ago, i dont track but i do drive daily.. i must say, the paint is holding up pretty well.. a few rock chips here and there but nothing some touch up can't fix.. i dont understand why you all buy the expensive heat-coated stuff if you are just daily driving.. i used a $2 jar of Red Tamiya paint found at any local hobby store and it looks pretty good if you ask me

You will not have any problems autoXing. Your brakes hardly have time to heat up on the typical autoX course.

G2 paint is what I have used. The only time I have chipped the paint was when a rock got caught in my wheel. I burned the paint at a track day but that was because I didn't have enough pad in the caliper. My fault, not the paints. I scorched the caliper paint, was metal to metal on the brakes and boiled the fluid. I learned a good lesson that day. The two previous track days had been no problem at all.

AutoXing for three years have NEVER caused any problems with the painted calipers.
