Taking wheels off and putting them back on is the easiest part. Painting the calipers requires a lot of prepping and patience. However, the result is well worth the time. You can do all this right in your own garage. Took me about 4 hours total because I like mine to come out perfect.
When I painted my calipers, I also addressed the rusty rotors issue. I treated the small inner ring of rust closest to the hub and the outer cooling slots with rust converter. I waited twenty four hours and then painted them with brush on BBQ black.....no more rust. If you get a little paint on the rotor surface, it will come right off under braking.
I painted mine red with 900 degree high-temp paint, $3.99 +tax at pep boys. Took me about 4 hrs, most of that was cleaning and masking off everything with newspaper. Just go slow and be patient. I did two thin coats, then one heavy coat, and one more thin one. Also, many high temp paints need to be cured or they rub off. Read the bottle, mine said 650 degrees for 30-60 minutes, within 8 hrs of application. So I just went out and drove hard for an hour; think of it as a bonus. Probably didn't hit 650, but it turned out great.
This pic is OK, but the red is shadowed. Looks brighter than this.

i used a kit from the miata site...
it came with everything i needed except for the jack and jack stands-
the only paint to use is an epoxy based paint, to withstand the high temps.
what was it called? maybe the inventory at pep boys is the same for florida & california
Plasit-kote Hot Paint - Ultra High Temperature (900F). I used HP-13 Red. This is flat red; a little gloss would be nice, but I like the way it turned out.
It's been two or three weeks, still looks great. I think KeithD used the same paint (black) and did a couple auto-x's with no fading or cracking. The 500-600 degree paint will chip.
