Passport SR1
Just installed my new radar detector. It is totally awsome! While I know there are a lot of V1 fans here I just couldn't find a spot to put the GIANT box it comes in! My head unit fits on the steering column and is like 1"X 3 1/2" X 1/2". It has remote front and rear receivers. I have always used and will continue to always use Passports (just because).
I also have a Passport SR1 and i think its an awesome unit. Very descrete with the front detector in the upper drivers side radiator grill, and as Utah said the display unit fits perfectly on the steering column. For you V1 fans it displays multiple targets and their strength at the same time on the display. I was also able to disabled the XBand as its only used to open grocery store doors around here...
List $599.00....got mine for $450.00. Expensive yes but the installation is very stealthy. Wife got a ticket for 93 in a 70 last week. Only second time she drove the car....ticket was my fault...I told her to go out and hit VTEC. Guess I didn't explain it could be done in any gear, she thought it was a top end thing. She got popped at 93 coming off 145...I got a new radar detector
. Funniest part was when she said "I never felt VTEC". Even better is I no longer have to worry about getting the first ticket

I just bought a Passport 8500 this afternoon ($300 at Ultimate Electronics). Valentine is out of stock and will be for the forseeable future (they have been saying 2-3 weeks for at least a month), and I am driving 800 miles this weekend. Everything that I have read puts them about even in performance.
My pet peeve: it comes with a coiled power cord and the input to the actual detector is a telephone jack. To wire it in permanently, I will have to run a telephone wire around my car.
I tried it for a while today but couldn't find any nice policemen trying to give me a ticket.

Also, to the guy who mounted the front detector in the grille -- the higher the detector the better, no? Would the remote detectors be mountable at the top inside-corners of the windscreen?
Anyone have pictures? $32K for a car, we should all have decent digital cameras...
