Fog, I'll post pics Friday afternoon... Yes you are correct that the higher the mounting position the better... However the SR1 sensor module is fairly big at about 4" x 5" x 1", Thus making it difficult to mount as you suggest. The sensor is very well sealed against the elements and performs very well in its current position as compared to V1 equiped S2Ks that have been driving with me and hit by radar.

For those looking for a URL, go to:

http://www.passportsr1.com

You will find that the SR1 is based on the previous top-of-the-line Escort 7500, hence it does not have nearly the range of the 8500. In fact, in tests by Radar Test.com it did rather poorly against the Bel remote unit.

Additionally, the SR-1 is detectable by VG-2 from almost a half-mile away, the Bel and of course the V1 are not.

Of course, since Escort bought out Bel last year their model has been a little difficult to get ahold of.

I contemplated this model for a long time after getting the car but decided that it was just not a good fit for this Virginia driver.

I went with the Passport SR1 after reading the above review in Corvette magazine. I wanted a hidden one I don't have to remove if I leave the car with the top down, or that someone won't cut top to get. Seems to work pretty good. Bought and installed at Sound Advice.
